The Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series was denied great success when it debuted in 2022. Nevertheless, the adventures with the popular Jedi were relatively well received by both the trade press and fans. Shortly after the final episode was broadcast, the calls for a second season 2 became correspondingly loud. Although there were always rumors and speculation, there was no official confirmation from Disney. The latest announcement from the Mickey Mouse company should now provide certainty – much to the annoyance of the waiting fans.
This is what Season 2 of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is about
Disney and Lucasfilm recently announced the release of several Star Wars series outside of their own streaming service Disney Plus. As well as Star Wars: Andor as well as Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi become am 20. April 2024 on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray appear, pre-orders are possible from March 12th, i.e. from next week.
A closer look at this actually positive announcement reveals a detail that is as interesting as it is certainly disappointing for many fans. While Disney released the Blu-ray box of Star Wars: Andor with the addition “the complete First Season” is simply written on the box of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi “the complete series”. This small but subtle difference in wording actually only allows one conclusion: There will be no further season for this series. Otherwise, Disney would certainly have chosen a different name.
This will certainly disappoint many fans, especially since actor Ewan McGregor has repeatedly expressed his interest in making a comeback as Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, it doesn't seem to be out of the question that he will return as the famous Jedi as part of another project.
