There has been a new game project on Steam for a few days now that aims to impress with an unusual, indirect management system. PCGH introduces Crown of Greed, a single-player RTS game with city-building elements.
Indirect management as a special feature
The game's setting is Rodovia – a mystical realm inspired by Slavic mythology. Crown of Greed can now be found on Steam, but so far only with the option to add it to your wishlist. There should be the first demos or playtests in autumn or winter 2024, with publication scheduled for the first half of 2025. What is promised is “RTS gameplay with indirect management solutions”. Units are not simply selected like in other games and orders are given with a click of the mouse. Instead, units have “their own free will” and an extensive AI system to match.
In other words, you don't give the units orders, you have to convince them “or even bribe them” to do something. What is promised is the “role of a ruler who has to face real difficulties and exciting challenges.” Heroes are an essential element in achieving goals. But they have to be convinced with gold or resources. Loyal subjects who should also have “advanced” AI are also important. They carry out orders such as those awarded in the area of settlement management. This includes taxes, repairing damaged buildings, guarding certain areas, and more.

Castle as the center
The castle's control panel can be used to manage the lands, build new buildings, issue orders and contracts or carry out numerous researches. Buildings can be built manually or spontaneously by subjects such as farms, bakeries, mills and agricultural fields. They represent the main source of income for coins through taxes.
There is also a magic system in Crown of Greed. Using specially selected spells, you can influence the fate of the empire and directly harm or weaken enemies, assist heroes in their missions, or even positively influence the controlled buildings under your control.
The campaign offers various missions to choose from. Each mission should be characterized by a high level of replay value and include many procedurally generated random elements. But they don't just want to convince players with the gameplay, but also with “attractive, dark graphics and the captivating soundtrack”.
