Samsung's mid-range phones may not offer the best value for money, but they continue to stand out for their premium design, excellent screen and decent cameras. Based on that same formula, Samsung revealed its Galaxy A 2024 mid-range phones: the Galaxy A55 and A35. Both cell phones have been the target of information leaks in recent weeks, with the A55 being listed in some online stores. In addition to some design tweaks, the Korean giant's latest budget Galaxy phones include the usual annual updates, with a key security update. So let's look at Samsung's new mid-range.
Samsung made the right upgrades in the new mid-range!
Galaxy A55
The Galaxy A55 features a “Key Island” similar to its cheaper brothers, the Galaxy A25 and A15. There is a protrusion on the right side of the phone, which houses the volume buttons and the on/off button. Build quality has also been improved, with the Galaxy A55 being the company's first mid-range phone to feature a metal frame.
Compared to the 6.5-inch display on the Galaxy A54, the Galaxy A55 comes with a larger 6.6-inch AMOLED FHD+ panel. It has a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ for greater protection.
The Galaxy A55 is Samsung's mid-range phone for 2024, with an improved design, a larger screen and a faster Exynos chip. It also comes with upgraded camera features, allowing you to capture HDR videos and take better night photos. Samsung now offers the phone with up to 12 GB of RAM for better multitasking performance.
Technical specifications
Internally, Samsung's latest mid-range uses an Exynos 1480 SoC, with four Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.75 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz. AMD's RDNA2 architecture. Samsung claims that the new chip brings a 15% faster processor and a 32% increase in GPU performance. Interestingly, Samsung has increased the RAM on the base model to 8GB, while the 256GB storage configuration comes with 12GB of RAM. There's also a microSD card slot.
However, the triple rear cameras remain the same as the Galaxy A54. However, we have 12-bit HDR video recording and night photos improved with AI.
The Galaxy A55 runs One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, the same version of Samsung's skin that you get on the Galaxy S24.
Samsung Galaxy A35
The Galaxy A35 has the same design as the A55, including Key Island and a 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz screen. It uses the Exynos 1380 SoC, the same chip that powered last year's Galaxy A54. The phone also comes with 6GB of base RAM, with the 256GB variant configurable with up to 8GB of RAM.
The Galaxy A35 is last year's Galaxy A54. So they bet on the Exynos 1380 processor, a larger 6.6-inch FHD+ screen and up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Thanks to a 5,000mAh battery, the phone can easily provide power throughout the day.
Samsung highlights that its latest mid-range phones support Samsung Knox Vault, a first for its A-series smartphones. This hardware-based security solution provides a “secure execution environment that is physically isolated from the main processor and system memory” to protect your sensitive data such as card details, PIN codes, passwords and more.
Unlike the Galaxy S24, Samsung only promises four Android operating system updates and five years of security fixes for the A55 and A35. So this is the same period of time promised for the company's previous mid-range products.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy A54 and A55 should be available for pre-order and on sale in most countries later this month.
