The head of development of God of War III and the Star Wars Jedi dilogy, Stig Asmussen, who left Electronic Arts last fall, announced the establishment of a new studio for game production – it is called Giant Skull.
Giant Skull bills itself as a studio focused on creating “gameplay-driven, story-driven action-adventure games set in captivating worlds.”
It is reported that Giant Skull has already begun development of its debut game – an as-yet untitled single-player AAA action adventure game using the Unreal Engine 5 engine.
According to Asmussen, who became Giant Skull's CEO, the studio's culture is one of creativity and curiosity: “Our goal is to create a rich universe that players will want to get lost in for years to come.”
In addition to Asmussen, Giant Skull's management team includes several other industry veterans:
technical director Jon Carr – held a similar position with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor; design director Jeff Magers – oversaw design on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order; art director Patrick Murphy – was the art director of Fortnite, Valorant, League of Legends; Lead Producer Lauren McLemore, who performed similar duties for Fortnite; animation director Brian Campbell, one of the founders of the Fortnite team; COO and CFO Anthony Scott – prior to joining Unbroken Studios, he served as COO of Rocksteady Studios.
Scott added that Giant Skull is creating “something special” and wants to involve players in every step of the development process. How this will manifest itself is still unclear. The official website of the studio is available at this link.
The announcement of the opening of Giant Skull came several weeks after mass layoffs at Electronic Arts, which led to the cancellation of the shooter in the Star Wars universe from the studio Respawn Entertainment, Asmussen's previous place of work.
