PlayStation seeks to compete directly with other subscription services, following the example of the successful Game Pass. Although many expect a complete game library from day one, the company's strategy is different: expand its offering beyond video games.
According to its latest statement on the official blog, the Japanese company has announced that PS Plus Premium, its subscription service, will incorporate a wide selection of series licensed by Crunchyrollthe world's leading on-demand anime streaming platform.
These animes will be available in Sony Pictures Core, another Sony service included in PS Plus Premium, which offers access to more than 100 movies and series produced by the Japanese company. The first major title to join this offer is Boku no Hero Academiaand other industry hits are expected to be added gradually.
This move, implemented since December last year in several countries, is a natural step for Sony. The acquisition of the platform in 2017 has fueled its exponential growth, making it an essential service for anime fans.
