Let's pretend that we are surprised by the survey results.
US streaming platform Tubi conducted a survey to find out what millennials and Gen Z people prefer to watch. The survey was conducted between December 22, 2023 and January 5, 2024 among people over 18 years of age who watched at least one hour of content per week.
The results revealed that more than 70% of Gen Z and millennials prefer to watch original films and TV series rather than remakes and ongoing franchises. Simply put, people are tired of watching the same thing, they want something new.
The survey also showed that when viewers feel a desire for nostalgia, they re-watch old and favorite TV series. For example, “The Office” or “Friends”.
Moreover, it turns out that viewers value independent content because they want to feel like they are directly supporting content creators outside of large corporations.
And last but not least. The study found that what viewers most want is to have a wide range of content in their libraries and not be limited to projects on just one platform.
With the current variety of streaming services, viewers have become very thoughtful when purchasing a subscription. Netflix and some other services have already noticed this trend: Netflix, for example, will soon have content from HBO, Paramount and Disney.
