One of the most beloved supporting characters in the entire Star Wars galaxy is Lando Calrissian. The legendary smuggler, friend of Han Solo, was played by Billy Dee Williams in the George Lucas original trilogy a few decades ago. Now, it is Donald Glover who has picked up the baton of that role.
It was during the premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story when we were able to see the new performer and he will appear again on the small screen with his own independent series. We still do not have a release date for the production, but Williams has warned, in Radio Times, of the responsibility that Glover will have.
“He is part of a whole new generation. He will create whatever it takes to make the character attractive. He is a very talented and very imaginative young man. It is not my place to say what he should do with the character at this point. I took care of the 20th century, now he has to deal with the 21st.”
Some words of encouragement, without a doubt, but they clash head-on with his opinion about whether Glover fits the role or not. “I had a nice lunch with him. He's a lovely young man. Extremely talented. But I don't see him… I mean, When it comes to Lando Calrissian there is only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character,” Williams explains.
Of course, at least he shared with Glover some advice that fits perfectly with the personality of the former owner of the Millennium Falcon. “I told him to be charming…two words! That's all I had to say. That's all I could think of,” says the veteran actor.
