Marcus was not very pleased with the dismissal of his subordinates.
Markus Lehto, head of single-player development for the Battlefield series, first spoke out about leaving Electronic Arts. Lehto left the company at the end of February 2024, and his studio was closed soon after.
Lehto did not go into details of his departure, but noted that he could not say anything good about Electronic Arts. Marcus was especially unhappy with the closure of the Ridgeline Games studio after he left the company.
Markus Lehto
development manager
I'm not saying much because I don't have anything good to say about Electronic Arts, my recent departure and how many people, including my team, are suffering from mass layoffs in the games industry.
The dismissal of my Electronic Arts team was a shock. There were so many incredibly talented developers who were extremely valuable to the Battlefield series.
Representatives of Electronic Arts itself have not yet commented on Lehto’s dismissal. Although the Ridgeline Games studio was closed after Marcus left, there has been no announcement of the cancellation of the game the company was developing.
Lehto joined Electronic Art following a change in leadership of the Battlefield series in 2022. In addition to Marcus's studio, DICE and Ripple Effect studios are developing new parts of the series.
