Canceling eSports events is not a thing.
Game studio Respawn Entertainment undertook urgent measures to strengthen the protection of its flagship shooter Apex Legends. Let us remind you that during the ALGS championship, the game accounts of several participants were subject to hacker attacks with the activation of cheats, which forced the organizers to suspend the tournament battles.
As it became known, in order to counter threats, the studio has released the first of a planned series of patches that strengthen the security of the platform. The course of action taken does not allow clear conclusions about the nature of the exploited vulnerability, however, the community, among other versions, focuses on the likelihood of remote code execution (RCE) by attackers – a problem that, if confirmed, goes beyond ordinary problems and requires a large-scale examination of the code base games.
Meanwhile, the Easy Anti-Cheat anti-cheat campaign announced the completion of an internal investigation, the results of which did not reveal any vulnerabilities in their own infrastructure. In the context of the allegations, players' eyes are once again turning towards the Source Engine, an old source leak of which is rumored to be involved in the incident.
However, although some Apex Legends tournaments have been postponed, the organizers see no reason to postpone the playoffs of the first split, scheduled for the first week of May. Replay of matches affected by hacking will be organized additionally, which the studio promises to announce in the near future.
