As promised in advance of the release, the developers want to explore the game world in “Dragon's Dogma 2” in new ways. Initial reviews indicate that this also applies to the respawn after your character dies.
After around twelve years of waiting, “Dragon's Dogma 2”, the official successor to the popular action role-playing game from Capcom, will be released tomorrow.
Weeks before the release, game director Hideaki Itsuno pointed out that the developers consciously decided to only provide the fantasy adventure with a save game. According to Itsuno, this design decision should primarily benefit the excitement of exploring the game world.
At the same time, the developers would like to encourage you to plan your next steps carefully. As testers report, this also applies to the moment of your death. If your group dies, you have two options. On the one hand, you can return to the restaurant you last used.
Short routes = reduced HP
However, this could sometimes result in quite a long walk if, for example, the restaurant is far away from the place where your character died. The second option is to load the last autosave, which brings you closer to the fight you just lost.
However, there is a catch to the whole thing. While on the one hand you may save some time, you are faced with the fact that your character's maximum health points will be reduced if you use the autosave.
This in turn means that you will be at a disadvantage in the coming fights until you next stop at a restaurant. A rest resets the maximum life points to their original value.
So it's up to you whether you accept longer walking distances after the death of your awakened one or whether you reduce them and deal with harder fights instead.
What do the international ratings say?
This week we received the first reviews of “Dragon's Dogma 2”, which promise a successful role-playing experience. The testers particularly praised the versatile combat system, the spectacular boss fights and the game world, which rewards your urge to explore with all sorts of exciting and entertaining discoveries.
On the one hand, there were deductions for the story, which, like the first part, wasted valuable potential.
In addition, “Dragon's Dogma 2” doesn't run completely smoothly from a technical point of view and always has to struggle with small fluctuations in the frame rate. However, appropriate updates could help here.
“Dragon's Dogma 2” will be released tomorrow, Friday, March 22, 2024 for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders can start at midnight sharp.
