The ability to play on laptops for the mass market has always been there, but for a long time mobile devices lagged behind desktop PCs in terms of hardware and users could only run old and simple projects on them. Then, for example, a modern laptop with an Intel Pentium II and an ATI Rage Mobility 8MB card, when computers already had Pentium IV and GeForce 3, was normal. Subsequently, powerful processors with low power consumption appeared, generations of mobile video cards began to be updated more often, and manufacturers began to offer gaming laptops for a certain category of consumers. First, this niche was occupied by specialized companies such as AlienWare, and then large companies joined, in which the number of series and models of gaming mobile devices now exceeds all possible limits.
Acer is no exception, offering a more powerful line of Predator gaming laptops and a more affordable Nitro. We had them in testing quite often, so our readers could get to know them all. This time we will look at the laptop of the new Nitro V series, which has become an evolutionary development of the ordinary Aspire 7 line for the mass user.
Acer Nitro V 15 (ANV15-51)
The new product is built on the Aspire 7 series chassis, so it is not surprising that the Nitro V resembles a regular laptop for learning and work. It uses an Intel Core i5-13420H processor with the ability to process up to 12 threads and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card, which allows you to play modern projects on a Full HD screen. Speaking of the screen, unlike “working” devices, it here has a refresh rate of 144 Hz, which adds smoothness in games. Also, the gaming laptop has appropriate software support in the form of the NitroSense application, which was not the case with regular laptops from this manufacturer. Everything else is standard and no different from more affordable products, including 16 GB memory, 512 GB storage, modern interfaces, a 720p camera and a 57 W battery.

The laptop comes in a box made of regular cardboard, on the front side of which the line of the gaming device is indicated. Interestingly, this model already comes with the Nitro logo, whereas previously this series of laptops was simply indicated in words. Perhaps the company decided to increase the popularity of the brand in this way.
The package includes documentation and a 135 W power supply with a network cable.
It is manufactured by Chicony and is designed for a wide input voltage range, with an output of 19.5V.
Appearance
As mentioned above, the laptop is based on the Aspire, which is noticeable in its appearance, but some cosmetic changes have been made. Thus, the logo of the series, not the manufacturer, appeared on the lid, painted gray and blue diagonal stripes, and the plastic “pictures” – the signature decorative elements of the predecessor – disappeared. In addition, the front edge of the working surface has a large chamfer, which will reduce the effect of the sharp corner of the case cutting into the user's palm during prolonged use. Also, the smooth contours of the bottom cover were replaced by straight edges.
Dimensions are 362.3 x 239.9 x 26.9 mm and weighs 2.11 kg. For Acer, this is one of the lightest gaming laptops of this level – all the others are either heavier, or vice versa, but they also have a smaller matrix. Now there is no void in the company’s assortment, which gapes between the Predator Triton 14 with a weight of 1.7 kg and Nitro 5 with 2.5 kg.
The developers also did not change the hot air outlet nozzle on the working surface near the screen, which was in the Aspire 7 laptops. Perhaps in subsequent iterations the design will be changed, but this one remained in the transition period.
In addition to changing the shape of the bottom cover, the Nitro V also has a different arrangement of rubber feet. The number of slots for air passage remained at the same high level.
The speaker grille is now placed on a beveled edge in a single row.
The set of peripheral connectors has not changed. On the left side there is LAN, HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports and one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C 1 with Thunderbolt 4 and charging support. There is also a power supply connector.
On the right side there is a combined 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port, as well as power and drive activity indicators with a hole for a Kensington lock. There is also a cooling system grille.
The screen occupies almost the entire area of the top cover and has thin frames.
On top there was room for a 720p webcam and microphone.
The screen can recline to an angle of about 140 degrees, while it raises the laptop body above the surface, thereby increasing the flow of fresh air for the cooling system.
The keyboard is a regular one, island type and with a numeric keypad, so that in addition to playing games on the laptop, you can conveniently work with data.
The device on/off button is located in the common block. Among the top row keys there is a button for calling the proprietary NitroSense application, which is quite convenient for quickly setting up the system.
In addition, the buttons have a regular white backlight along the contour with several brightness modes and, if necessary, it can be turned off.
The touchpad is large with two buttons, and there is a fingerprint sensor at the top left.
