The extraction shooter Marathon, developed by Bungie, may be switching from customizable characters to a hero shooter under a new game director.
Over the past few months, Bungie, the studio behind the popular sci-fi franchise Destiny, has seen some significant changes. Now there are new indications that the upcoming extraction shooter Marathon is probably based on a hero based character model will transition under the leadership of a new leader, Joe Ziegler.
According to multiple sources who spoke to IGN, Christopher Barrett has been removed as Marathon game director. His successor is Joe Ziegler, who previously worked as director of Valorant at Riot Games and has been at Bungie since 2022. Ziegler confirmed via Xsaid he has been in this role for nine months and looks forward to sharing more details soon.
How exactly the change will be implemented in terms of the playable characters and whether the game will be available to you Live-Service-Modell similar to what will follow with Apex Legends remains to be seen.
Marathon has been announced for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC and is rumored to be released in 2025.
