It remains to be seen what the circulation of Divinity Original Sin 2 will be.
Baldur's Gate 3 could sell approximately 15 million copies. This conclusion can be drawn from an interview with Larian Studios founder Sven Vincke GameSpot: the developer mentions that sales of Baldur's Gate 3 are almost double those of Divinity Original Sin 2, the studio's other game.
There is a problem: we don’t know exactly what level of sales Divinity Original Sin 2 had. However, at one time the developers compared the sales of the game with the first Divinity Original Sin – and now its sales are known.
According to rough calculations by fans, sales of the latest Larian Studios games look like this:
Divinity Original Sin: 2.5 million copies in 2019. Divinity Original Sin 2: 3 times the size of Divinity Original Sin, i.e. at least 7.5 million copies. Baldur's Gate 3: approximately twice the size of Divinity Original Sin 2, i.e. about 15 million copies.
An important point: sales of Divinity Original Sin have certainly increased since 2019, meaning sales of Divinity Original Sin 2 (and Baldur's Gate 3) may be higher than these estimates. It’s not entirely clear why the developers simply don’t want to give the actual numbers.
According to the head of the publishing division of Larian Studios, Michael Dawes, by the end of February 2024, the audience of Baldur's Gate 3 exceeded 10 million people. This is the only exact sales figure disclosed by the developers recently.
