Foldable smartphones still feel like a novelty, such is the rarity of models around us on a daily basis, in the hands of consumers. But, the reality is that we have been going through this nonsense of launches for almost 6 years, since 2019! However, there are still no truly tangible levels of success.
What's missing to start selling properly? Well, Samsung has an idea and seems ready to put it into practice.
Galaxy Z Fold 6: This foldable could change the market!
Therefore, as we have been reporting, Samsung is ready to launch more foldables in 2024. More specifically, it is ready to launch cheaper versions of the current Z Fold and Z Flip. In the case of the Z Flip, it is very likely that there will be a Z Flip FE, while in the case of the Z Fold, there should be an Ultra version.
In other words, Samsung's range of foldables will consist of:
Galaxy Z Flip 6 FE
Galaxy Z Flip 6
Galaxy Z Fold 6
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra
The idea is simple, to offer more alternatives to the market, while focusing on price, without compromising too much on the construction quality and list of technical specifications.
A good strategy, because this has been the excuse of several experts… Foldable smartphones are too expensive!
Therefore, at a time when production is much more efficient, and therefore cheaper, which is exactly why we have many other manufacturers investing in this market segment, Samsung wants to understand if the problem is in the format itself, or in the price of each device.
Thus, several rumors point to a Z Flip 6 FE priced at just over €700, while the new Z Fold 6 should appear on the market at around €1000. (In Portugal, prices are expected to be higher!)
Will it be enough?
Well, it will depend a lot on the technical specifications and actual capabilities of these devices. Doubling is not enough.
Apparently, the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen3 is reserved only for the Z Fold 6 Ultra, just as it also only appears on the S24 Ultra in the traditional range of Samsung smartphones.
Therefore, this should mean that the Z Flip 6 FE hits the market with an Exynos 2200 SoC, just like the S23 FE before it, and most likely with an older design. However, the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 hit the market with an Exynos 2400 SoC, just like the Galaxy S24 and S24+, and also with the same design as last year.
Finally, as we said above, the top of the range comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 SoC, and of course, all the technological innovations that Samsung has been preparing for the market.
Will this be the time when we will see foldables “explode”? Or is it a format that will never convince, and therefore, will forever be a niche? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
