As you may know, unlike AirPods which may work in a more limited way, but they do work, to fulfill their function, an Apple Watch needs to be associated with an iPhone. It has always worked like this, and for a long time, it was always thought that it would be like this forever and ever.
But… Maybe not!
Apple Watch on Android. After all… Will it happen or not?
Therefore, if you happen to have an Android smartphone and want an Apple Watch, it doesn't work and that is a problem for the North American government. In fact, it is one of the many reasons why the United States Department of Justice decided to take Apple to court. Something curious, because Wear OS (Google) watches, at least the most recent ones, also no longer support the Apple ecosystem. But that doesn't matter now!
Of course, just as things also took a long time on the European side, but in the meantime they have already resulted in the adoption of USB-C input across the entire range of Apple products, and also in the opening of the App ecosystem, this North American process It will also be long, extremely interesting, and of course, it will bring some curious results.
One of them could be the opening of the Apple ecosystem to “third parties”. What is clear, in this more specific case, could mean the arrival of the Apple Watch on Android smartphones. After all, according to Apple itself, this is a possibility that was already on the table, and was even the target of a project that lasted 3 years, being canceled just because… It didn't make sense for Apple's business. But… To silence critics and the government itself? Maybe it starts to make sense.
Plus, if we're really honest, it's also a business opportunity for Apple itself. After all, how many Android users would make the leap to an Apple Watch? Perhaps more important than that, how many users with an Apple Watch “for Android” would eventually like the watch so much, to the point of making the leap to an iPhone or any other Apple product?
Quite honestly, it seems to be a Win-Win situation for Apple, and at this point, it seems to be very close to being a reality.
Obviously, it is difficult to point to a date. But, at a time when the Apple Watch is about to turn 10, an 'X' version is therefore expected. Maybe it would make sense to attack the Android ecosystem with a watch with unexpected support for the competition.
Let's wait and see.
