The second part of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic continued its triumphant march at the box office, bringing total revenue to $574.4 million – $233.4 million came from the domestic market, while foreign receipts reached $341 million.
With that, the franchise, which also includes 2021's Dune with earnings of $433.9 million, has officially entered the billionaires' club.
It is worth noting that in just 3 weeks of release, the second part surpassed the total worldwide box office of its predecessor, and in just 10 days – the national box office (however, the first part was simultaneously released in theaters and on HBO Max, so ticket sales were somewhat suppressed by the online release).
Dune: Part Two continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic science-fiction novel from director Denis Villeneuve. According to the synopsis, the sequel will see Paul Atrid team up with the Chani and the Fremen (a tribe of desert people in the Dune universe) to take revenge on the conspirators who destroyed his family. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem returned to their roles. New characters also appear, played by Austin Butler (villain Feyd-Rauth Harkonnen), Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan) and Christopher Walken (Shaddam IV).
Notably, the achievement marks Chalamet's first billion-dollar franchise and Zendaya's second (along with the Spider-Man franchise). Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin are joining the “elite club” for the third time.
