An exemplary portfolio
In October 2023, we learned that Connie Boothproducer at Sony since 1995, left his post for reasons that are still not very clear today. After more than 30 years of good and loyal service during which Booth oversaw now-iconic projects, the American producer packed up, leaving behind a trail of games that left their mark on players in one way or another. Among them, we find very well-known anthropomorphic heroes, notably the very first Crash Bandicootbut also games like Ratchet & Clank, Spyro the Dragon, Jak and Daxterand the franchise Sly Cooper.
More Connie Booth also worked on licenses like Uncharted, inFamous, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Usand even Marvel’s Spider-Man as well as its sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which was released shortly after his departure. According to his former colleagues, Booth has been a major influence on the success of franchises of Sony, and above all on the development of the creative vision of developers. Given the current state of the studios PlayStationit is difficult not to imagine that the waves of layoffs had something to do with the departure of Booth. And yet, his new house is also in the process of restructuring its workforce, among other controversies.
The future of many licenses is in its hands
After Sonyit's the turn of Electronic Arts to benefit from the knowledge of Connie Booth. Chez EAshe now takes on the role of General Director of Action RPG Productionsand will notably be responsible for studios such as EA Motiveswho is currently working on a game Iron Manbut also Cliffhanger Gameswho are responsible for Marvel’s Black Pantherand finally BioWareto whom we owe the sagas Dragon Age et Mass Effect. If we base ourselves on the declarations of EA which now wishes to focus on its own franchises and on “blockbuster storytelling”, the experience of Connie Booth in the field should be a real asset for the studio.
Moreover, one of the main objectives of Booth will be the revitalization of BioWarewhich has suffered from controversies surrounding games like Anthem et Mass Effect Andromeda, in particular because of numerous bugs, but also in view of the lack of refinement in terms of animation and narration – an unfortunately recurring problem in EA's latest releases. We can only hope that the expertise of Connie Booth bears fruit, and that it is able to prioritize the creativity of developers as it was able to do at Sony until now. Especially since she arrives just in time for the home stretch of Dragon Age : Dreadwolf !
