The developers of cooperative first-person shooter PAYDAY 2 have released update 247, which will see the game switch to a newer version of the Diesel engine. The game now runs on a 64-bit version of the engine and uses DirectX 11. Processor load has also been improved, level loading is accelerated, and a new resource compression system has been introduced so the game should take up less disk space. Size reduced from over 100GB to 32GB,
Other changes include:
- Full support for virtual reality, no separate executable required;
- New content ownership system;
- Voice chat for matching via Epic online services;
- Updated localization archives.
- Improved mouse performance;
- Fully supports PlayStation 4 controller;
- New player search filters (“Country”, “Region” and “Worldwide”);
- More frame rate limiting options;
- Fixed some bugs related to looting and network synchronization;
- Improved weapon and loot balance;
As updates are released, the developer will also temporarily keep older versions of the game in the beta branch for a month. This will allow players experiencing severe issues to temporarily revert to a previous update.
In addition, support for the native version of PAYDAY 2 on Linux has also been discontinued. Users of this operating system will now need to run the game through Proton.
