CCP Games sale leaves Pearl Abyss with huge debt until 2030

Publisher Pearl Abyss has released its 2026 semi-annual report, which revealed unexpected details about the sale of the EVE Online developer to CCP Games.

The deal worth 177.1 billion won, which was completed on May 6, has created hidden liabilities for the company. As the publisher’s Icelandic unit was liquidated as the seller, Pearl Abyss’ parent company provided a joint guarantee of up to $100 million to the buyer, represented by CCP Games management, until May 2030.

The report states that the likelihood of payment was assessed as low because the buyer is a manager who is well aware of the studio’s condition. In the first half of the year, profits from discontinued operations, including sales, amounted to 16.6 billion won, while the company’s overall financial performance was also affected by the decline in the value of cryptocurrency assets and Big Game Studio’s investment losses.
