Microsoft has explored the possibility of Activision and Sledgehammer Games teaming up to develop a multiplayer game based on the Halo universe. According to a new report from insider Rebs Gaming, the project, codenamed Project Ecker, was in the early prototype stages, but Activision killed the project in July.
Rumors about Activision Blizzard’s involvement in the creation of new games in the series emerged last month thanks to the influence of journalist Jez Corden. Sources confirm that the studio tested basic movement mechanics as part of a concept design in June, but the entire project has yet to be approved.
However, Xbox management continues to consider various options for outsourcing and expanding the brand’s boundaries, especially in the context of exclusivity policy changes and the release of previous installments in the series on new platforms.
