A worthy sequel, but no ‘Elden Ring’ rival: Critics weigh in on ‘Deadly Shell 2’

On the eve of its upcoming release, Mortal Shell 2, the brutal open-world action role-playing game developed by publisher Playstack and US studio Cold Symmetry, has received its first-ever reviews from Western critics.

Critics praised the open world full of secrets, extensive combat capabilities, flexible role-playing system, significant improvements over the first game, high-quality graphics, responsive controls, and improved accessibility.

The game’s shortcomings include a weak plot, repetitive enemies (especially towards the end), level design that isn’t always intuitive, and a lack of “epic”uneven pacing of character development, awkward camerawork and unpleasant bugs.

Bugs regularly interrupt boss fights

Critics unanimously agreed that “Elden Ring 2” is a worthy sequel and a big step forward compared to the original “Elden Ring”, but still not on the level of its inspiration (“Elden Ring”).

Mortal Shell 2 will be released on PC on August 20 (from 2299 rubles) steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Players will have to collect stolen Undermother eggs, inhabit the bodies of outstanding warriors, overthrow false gods, and restore life to the devastated world.
