S-Game Studios has shared the latest details about its highly anticipated action game Phantom Blade Zero. The developers discussed the world’s structure, combat system and unique difficulty levels, and confirmed a release date – the game will be released on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) on October 29, 2026.
The game’s press conference was opened by the famous actor and martial artist Donnie Yen, who serves as the creative consultant of the project and plays the role of “Mo Yuan”. The developers describe the game’s setting as “Kung Fu Punk” – a dark world where traditional Chinese martial arts are intricately intertwined with steampunk, mechanics and body modification.
Players will play as Soul, once the most terrifying killer, but was betrayed and fatally wounded by his sworn brother. The mysterious “meat sculptor” brought the hero back to life, but only gave him 66 days. During this time, Soul must explore the harsh world of martial arts and find a cure.
The game world is not a classic “open world”, nor is it strictly linear corridors. It’s somewhere in between: connected, semi-open locations (presented as stylized maps drawn in ink) filled with hidden enemies, side quests, and rare treasures. In order to move quickly between areas, special bells are required.
In battle, Soul will be able to use more than 30 primary weapons, as well as the secondary “Phantom Blade”. Each weapon offers a different play style:
- Drunken Sword style allows you to accumulate special energy to improve dodge, causing the hero to swing unpredictably when attacking.
- The White Snake and Red Viper double blades work well together for long-range attacks.
- The flexible sword is able to bypass enemy obstacles and intercept opponents in the air.
- Heavy fists and hammers are designed to penetrate solid defenses.
- “Tiger Cannon” and “Fire Mane” will help you disrupt enemy formations or deal with crowds from a distance.
Weapons can be upgraded, unlocking new forms and techniques. The developers have also added a convenient “Recast Amulet” function to the game, which can reset the level of any blade and return 100% of resources to invest in new equipment.
For players of different skill levels, S-Game has prepared a variety of difficulty levels, from cinematic and intuitive modes for those who want to enjoy the story, to punishing challenges that utilize the deep mechanics of classic fighting games.
The 66-day mode is the main feature of the game. In this mode, the story timer of the hero’s life becomes a real game mechanic. The difficulty here corresponds to the highest level, but with each failure the soul loses time. If the counter reaches zero, permadeath occurs and the game must be restarted from the beginning.
Additionally, the studio confirmed that on PlayStation 5, games will make extensive use of the DualSense controller’s features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for precision shooting.
