Fans of co-op shooter Alien: Fireteam Elite 2 are just days away from its official release. Developer Cold Iron Studios is using the remaining time to learn more about the game’s career system on Steam and YouTube. After the introduction of specialized units such as medics or mechanics, the focus is now on so-called specialists. This endgame class stands out from other characters because it’s designed to be the ultimate all-rounder. It allows experienced players to freely create a variety of specialized skills, upgrades and perks, and assemble extremely powerful setups to combat aliens and synths.
In Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, the Specialist is a hybrid class that can only be unlocked later in the game. What’s special about this system is the complete freedom of modification: players can take advantage of the synergies of the entire class’s arsenal, rather than being tied to a fixed character model.
To illustrate the scope of this concept, the developers provided a concrete example of a powerful build. This combines the area control of the mechanic (e.g. via a gun) directly with the extreme damage output of the hunter. By pairing the right skills and modifiers, create a character that can slow down hordes of alien opponents while quickly dispatching them with high personal damage.
Developers hope that Expert Level will generate a high level of long-term motivation and a strong willingness to experiment within the community. Because higher difficulty interactions require precise coordination, the course provides fully rehearsed teams with maximum flexibility to fine-tune tactics.
Alien: Fireteam 2 will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on August 25, 2026, followed by a Nintendo Switch 2 version later this year. In addition to six playable classes, the sequel offers a 15-mission campaign, cross-play from day one, and expanded weapon and character customization options.
