The 80 Plus Ruby standard itself was adopted last year. When it was announced, the first company to be certified was China’s Delta Electronics, but then we were talking about dedicated power supplies for data centers. Haiyun also became the first consumer power supply manufacturer to obtain this certification. The manufacturer is preparing to release the Prime Enterprise RX-1600 model, which meets the requirements of the new standard.
To obtain 80 Plus Ruby certification under the 115 V 80 Plus program, the power supply must provide:
- Efficiency is 85% at 5% load;
- The efficiency is 91% at 10% load;
- The efficiency is 93% at 20% load;
- The efficiency is 95% at 50% load;
- Efficiency is 91% at 100% load.
In addition, the power factor at 20% load must be at least 0.95. 80 Plus Ruby certified power supplies must demonstrate efficiency not only under medium to high loads, but also during periods when the system is primarily in standby mode. Many systems operate in this mode most of the time.
Achieving these efficiencies requires improvements across the entire platform, including switching control and thermal design, as well as rigorous component selection and testing. Today’s AI-centric desktops, workstations, and configurations generate sharp, high-amplitude power load fluctuations. Higher conversion efficiency reduces energy loss in the form of heat and reduces cooling requirements. This advantage becomes increasingly important in denser and larger installations.
Haiyun did not specify when the new power supply model with the 80 Plus Ruby efficiency certificate will be fully launched. The company has not yet shared a more detailed description of the new product.
