AM4 is back in fashion: Gigabyte releases DDR4 B550 X gaming motherboard for Ryzen 5000

GIGABYTE has released another new motherboard with an AMD AM4 processor socket to support the resurgence of previous-generation platforms amid a severe shortage of DDR5 memory. We are talking about the B550 X Gaming model. The AMD B550 chipset supports DDR4 memory and offers many new features that are only available on modern motherboards based on the AM5 platform.

GIGABYTE B550 The new product receives power through a standard 24-pin ATX connector and an 8-pin EPS connector (for the processor).

This motherboard has four DIMM connectors for DDR4 memory, one PCI Express 4.0 x16 slot, and one M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 for NVMe drives. The second M.2 slot is designed for PCIe 3.0 SSDs and runs in x4 mode with the B550 chipset and has six SATA III ports (6 Gb/s). Other connectors include 1 PCI Express x16 (PCIe 3.0 x4) and 2 PCIe x1.

The motherboard uses an M.2 EZ-Latch mechanism for screwless SSD installation. A cooling heat sink is installed on the main M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot. The motherboard also offers a new ARGB 2.0 header. This board’s external connector set includes DisplayPort and HDMI 2.1. Unlike the previously launched B550 Aorus Elite WIFI7 and B550M X Aorus Elite WIFI7 models, it does not support Wi-Fi. A 2.5 Gb Realtek 8125 controller handles network connectivity. An entry-level Realtek ALC892 codec takes care of the sound.

The board’s external ports also include 1 USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps), 3 USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps), 1 USB Type-C, and 2 USB 2.0. There are two additional USB 3.2 and various USB 2.0 on the front panel.

The TechPowerUp portal writes that the Gigabyte B550 X Gaming motherboard is expected to cost less than $150.
