Impact Inked studio has opened the release window for a remastered version of POSTAL 2, called POSTAL 2 Redux. An updated version of the cult shooter will be released for PC in Spring 2027 (steam), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, as well as virtual reality devices SteamVR, PlayStation VR2 and Quest. The game is planned to be released on other consoles at a later date.
Created in Unity 6, POSTAL 2 Redux is a remake of the original 2003 game. The developers promise to maintain a high degree of sandbox freedom, but update the core gameplay system for modern hardware. Changes include redesigned graphics with high-resolution textures, improved lighting, shaders and materials, and a new level flow system. It should make moving around Paradise smoother than the original.
The developers have also completely redesigned the NPC system. City residents will begin to react more positively to the player’s actions and events happening around them. There will be changes to the combat system and physics, including a heavier collision feel and updated physical interaction with the environment.
POSTAL 2 Redux will feature the return of Dude’s companion from the original game, a dog named Champ. New interaction options will be added. It can be ironed, carried around and used in a variety of situations, including as a weapon.
“At its core, POSTAL 2 Redux is a true sandbox experience where players decide how to play each day in a living, interactive world that ranges from calm to frenzied, with no two gameplay experiences the same,” said Jasmine Uniza, CEO and Co-Founder of Impact Reality. “With this, Champ, the series’ beloved dog and long-time fan favorite, returns to Dude, now with the weapons he loves most.
Vince Desi, Founder and CEO of Running With Scissors, added: “When we created the original POSTAL 2, our goal was to create a game that had not been seen anywhere else – a game that was completely free to be defined by the players. It met people’s needs and impressed us along the way. 25 years later, we look to bring the original concept to life with modern technology and game systems, and the response from the community has blown us away.”
The project is produced by Impact Reality in partnership with Flat2VR Studios and Team Beef, with contributions from Running With Scissors staff. The development was funded via Kickstarter and the required funds were raised within a day.
