'Midnight South' author declares independence from Microsoft - after asking them for money to live independently

The developer of the action-adventure game “Midnight South” from Compulsion Games has officially announced a management buyout (MBO) and completely severed ties with Microsoft. The team became independent again and regained all original intellectual property rights.

Amid the recent wave of mass layoffs and Xbox structural crisis, studio management, led by CEO Guillaume Provost, agreed to return game rights to creators. According to Provost, management was able to buy the studio and retain its employees.

With this step, Compulsion Games will be able to directly control the future of its projects, and game buyers outside the Xbox ecosystem will be able to directly support the developers without having to attract publisher funding.
