CampFire Studio has shared details of its 90-day rework plan for the August phase of survival simulation game Mask of Souls. The main focus of the next update will be clan management and user-friendliness of the interface. Players will get a new main menu, a redesigned worker assignment system, weapons training, and the ability to regenerate health after fatal injuries.
Over the past two months, the developers have made some changes to the daily mechanics. Tribesmen began running less often between boxes, world portals began to fully connect the Sands to the Misty Forest, and buildings were simplified. When using the Construction Hammer, you can now build buildings directly from raw materials in your camp inventory and warehouses. Animations for attacking, jumping, dodging, stunning, and being hit have also been redesigned. For Bosses, the time to exit combat and the speed of health regeneration have been adjusted. The interface is gradually changing. Developers start by displaying character status, quest prompts, and controls.
August will be dedicated to managing large settlements. Previously, pressing the Esc key would open multiple sections at once, including characters, masks, item building, technology, and clan management. The content will now be transferred to the secondary menu called via Tab. General categories will appear on the first level and specific pages will appear on the second level. The old Esc screen will be transformed into a more compact function menu.
The most serious change will be in the distribution of jobs to tribal people. In large settlements, players can simultaneously control dozens of characters with different traits, talents, and skills, so developers create a separate interface in the form of a matrix. You can see all residents and available occupations on one screen and filter candidates by suitable talent. For example, a character with a maximum career level of 100 or higher will immediately stand out from other characters.
The work priority system will also be tied to the camp’s inventory. Players will be able to determine which tasks are more important at a given moment. A miner can be sent primarily to mine metal, while an experienced cook can be temporarily sent out to work in the fields so that he can return to cooking when supplies dwindle.
The training ground will receive a new weapons training feature. Players will be able to assign mentors and students, after which tribesmen will be able to master any weapon skill. This way, suitable roles will no longer be rejected due to lack of specific skills. Missing specializations can be gained during training.
Another innovation is genetic resilience. If the controlled character is seriously injured or dies, this ability restores all of their health. It has a 60 second cooldown, but cannot be used in War Mode.
However, the developers have hinted at bigger content coming to the game later on. Deep within the Sands, players will discover new areas and new masks, as well as answers to questions about why the world floats in the sky and what the true nature of the Sun God is. Specific details of this part of the update have not yet been disclosed.
