OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed concern that control of artificial intelligence will fall into the hands of a few companies and individuals. In this case, consumers will have no influence on how this technology changes the world around them, writes business insider.

«The right approach is that we want people to have a lot of control over the future– Altman said. — Society and models develop together».

Altman added that he is also concerned about the possibility of artificial intelligence breaking away from human control. He believed that fear of this could lead to the realization of the first fear. “Many people are so nervous about the scale of these risks that they succumb to that fear and feel the need to protect the world.” he said. “It’s like, you know, ‘We have to sacrifice a lot of freedoms for safety.'”

“Business Insider” believes that Altman is likely referring to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who warned of the dangers of the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Amodei advocates greater government regulation of artificial intelligence, which Altman believes could lead to restrictions on freedoms in order to improve safety.

Anthropic was one of the few major AI companies that did not sign last month’s letter supporting open weight models, which allow developers to share, download, modify and deploy them on their own infrastructure.

Several U.S. companies, including Nvidia, Meta✴ and Microsoft believe that the United States needs to promote wider use of open weight models, as China has, or risk losing its lead in the artificial intelligence race.
