PublisherZiggurat Interactive propose Sanitarium Enhanced Edition is an improved version of the cult psychological horror game Sanitarium (“Schizarium”) launched by American studio DreamForge Intertainment for modern platforms.

Compared to the original game, Sanitarium Enhanced Edition will offer controller support, gameplay improvements, never-before-seen bonus content, and legacy bug fixes.
They promise support for the 16:9 format during gameplay, an optional tooltip system that will help find interactive objects, Steam Deck optimizations, and the ability to speed up character movement.
According to the plot of Sanitarium, the main character Max, after surviving a car accident, ends up in a mental hospital with no memory of what happened or his character.
Players will visit five surreal worlds populated by insane and half-dead characters and discover Max’s tormented consciousness hidden beneath the veil of psychedelic dreams.
It is understood that “Sanitarium Enhanced Edition” will be released on PC before the end of 2026 (steam, GOGEpic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. The announcement comes with a shocking Game trailer.
The original Sanitarium debuted on PC in April 1998, earning critical acclaim and becoming a commercial success – the game sold over 300,000 copies. After 28 years, the classic version is available again steam, GOG and EGS.
