Shortly before Gamescom 2026 kicks off, developer 4A Games is getting post-apocalyptic fans’ hearts racing. The studio has launched a collector’s edition of its upcoming first-person shooter Metro 2039 with publisher Deep Silver. The game will take players back to the dark and radioactive tunnels of the Moscow Metro in February 2027, and comes with first-rate physical supplements: at the center of the Collector’s Edition is a true-to-scale, fully functional and wearable replica of the iconic Spartan helmet worn by the new protagonist, the so-called Stranger. Weared in the struggle for survival.
A preview trailer released as part of the unveiling highlights details on the collectible. In contrast to many traditional collector’s editions, which often offer purely cosmetic plastic figures, 4A Games relies on a vast array of equipment.
Crafted directly from the original 3D model from the game, this helmet features a folding visor, recreated breathing mask elements, and artificial battle marks, scratches, and personal modifications to reflect the harsh survival conditions of the post-apocalypse. As part of the show, Gamescom visitors in Cologne even had the opportunity to take a close look at the helmet for the first time at the game’s official booth.
In terms of content, the tone of “Metro 2039” is significantly darker and more depressing than previous branches of the series. As a stranger, players return to a destroyed Moscow to face old demons from their past and battle the ruler Hunter. In this dangerous mission, the Spartan helmet not only serves as a central symbol of the series, but also narratively embodies the ongoing struggle for survival in a hostile world.
Another new gameplay trailer will be shown as part of the opening show, Opening Night Live. Pre-orders for the standard and strictly limited collector’s editions are scheduled to begin later this year. Developers and publishers currently keep accurate pricing information or specific production figures to themselves. However, those interested in purchasing can now register on a specially set up landing page to be notified in time for the start of the sale. Metro 2039 will be released in February 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
