With DIY mini-computers becoming increasingly popular, Raspberry Pi has released an official guide to building your own Cyberdeck. The company notes that such devices have become a compelling trend, and its instructions will allow enthusiasts to assemble their own portable systems.

The Raspberry Pi manual contains a list of required components and detailed assembly instructions, but the design itself is very simple: it is recommended to take a regular black pelican case as a base and mount the Raspberry Pi 5 inside it. At the same time, as pointed out edgethe company recognized that there were more opportunities for similar projects, as enthusiasts were already creating web decks out of bags, jewelry boxes, and other used or recycled items.
Ashley Whittaker, head of Raspberry Pi’s social networking department, also drew attention to the field’s popularity. According to her, the company was unable to “get rid of Cyberdecks” throughout the year, as information about homemade mini-computers actively spread on TikTok and other social networks.
One famous example is user Annike Tan, whose project has received millions of views on TikTok. Tan continues to develop her cyberdeck in the form of a small tote, to which she has added a USB hub.
Against a backdrop of rising Raspberry Pi component prices, interest in projects like this could further support the market for current and future enthusiasts. The company has raised prices several times this year due to rising costs of RAM and other components, and the 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 used in the official Cyberdeck guide saw a $100 increase in April, effectively bringing it in line with the original price of the entire board ($120).
