If Sony has decided to get rid of PlayStation discs altogether, Microsoft has decided to come gently from afar: On August 31, members of the XBOX Insider program will be able to digitize their discs.
Your physical game library is more than just a collection of discs. It holds memories and stories worth preserving for years to come. Starting next week, XBOX Insider members will be able to unlock digital licenses for physical copies of supported games. We’ll start with thousands of titles and then add more.

As technology, devices and distribution methods continue to evolve, you’ll have more control over your game collection: Just insert an XBOX One or XBOX Series X game disc and get a digital license that supports Play Anywhere and cloud gaming.
Meanwhile, the physical media will continue to perform its function: if you give the disk to someone, the license will be transferred to another account. This innovative technology will be available to the public in the coming months.
