The argument that Chinese suppliers will help cope with the global memory shortage has gained practical credence mainly in China’s domestic market. At least there is a Korean version North Korea Business China’s Changxin Memory is reportedly ready to start supplying LPDDR6 memory to Chinese company Xiaomi, which has its own designed processors that support the standard.

Chinese media reported on Tuesday that LPDDR6 memory chips produced by Changxin Storage were certified for use with the 3nm Xring O3 processor provided by Chinese company Xiaomi the day before, sources said. It is reported that Changxin Storage is in the stage of bringing LPDDR6 memory to the market. Let us remember that, unlike the memory mentioned, this processor is manufactured outside China by the Taiwanese company TSMC using 3nm technology. According to sources, the current maximum information transmission rate of China’s LPDDR6 memory is only 12.8 Gbit/s, while the chip information transmission speed provided by South Korea’s Samsung and SK Hynix can reach up to 14.4 Gbit/s. In any case, Changxin Storage believes that Changxin Storage’s LPDDR6 mass production was completed in less than a year after LPDDR5X was put into production, which fully illustrates the technological progress of this Chinese memory supplier. Samsung and SK Hynix will also start shipping LPDDR6 chips this year. Meanwhile, Samsung customers have already received samples of its more advanced LPDDR6X memory.
The subtlety is that low-power memory is becoming more and more common in artificial intelligence computing infrastructure, but the main suppliers in this field will still be South Korea’s Samsung and SK Hynix, and the United States’ Micron Technology. This allows Changxin Storage to count on more active saturation of the consumer segment of the market. If rumors are to be believed, Apple is even interested in her product. One issue facing Chinese wafer makers may be new export restrictions, which will prohibit DUV lithography equipment suppliers from working with Chinese customers even to maintain existing systems, let alone supply new ones. Chinese memory manufacturers are threatened by such measures in the most obvious way, as they will not be able to meet all demand for such devices through Chinese substitutes alone.
