Before that, Project Helix had something a little different in mind. In March, Sharma announced the project as Microsoft’s “next generation console,” which is why, judging by the wording, we’re talking about a device, he noted edge. Now the head of Xbox is working with bbc newsThe company is actively developing the next generation of “Helix series devices.” The statement was made in response to a question about whether Project Helix would receive a version without a disc drive. Sharma didn’t answer the question directly, but Microsoft recently announced a plan to allow you to digitize physical copies of games.
The plan to release multiple devices at once is consistent with Microsoft’s previous statements. Back in 2025, the company entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with AMD to collaborate on a “portfolio of devices,” including the next generation Xbox. Therefore, the collaboration between the two companies is likely to affect various devices in the Helix family, although there are no specific details yet.
Additionally, there have been previous rumors that third-party manufacturers may release their own Project Helix consoles. Jason Ronald, vice president of next-generation devices at Xbox, did not directly refute such speculation. He said only that Project Helix would be available as an Xbox-branded console, and that the emergence of partner products was still up in the air.
The new Xbox will also be able to run PC games, and its release date is still unknown. However, AMD hinted in February that it would be preparing to launch the next generation Xbox in 2027.
