The Witcher 4’s lead writer Philip Weber admitted that at the beginning of development, he shared the fans’ concerns about changing the protagonist and wanted to keep Geralt at the center of the story.

After the first trailer premiered, parts of the community sharply criticized the studio’s decision to make Ciri the protagonist of the new chapter. Weber said the team understands these sentiments because developers experienced the exact same doubts in the early stages of creating a project. Now, the author is faced with the ambitious task of proving to players through the story and gameplay that Ciri is capable of fully shouldering the responsibility of the protagonist.

At the same time, the screenwriter rushed to reassure loyal fans, confirming that Geralt will not disappear from the universe and will continue to play an important role in the development of history.
