The Russian Far East has been a troubled region for centuries: a small population, a small number of industrial enterprises, and energy shortages. If it is virtually impossible to ensure economic growth in the Far East by forcing people to live thousands of kilometers away from the center of the country, then it is entirely possible to solve the energy shortage problem by building new generation capacity.

Therefore, within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum, the company RusHydro propose Project (model) of the Nizhne-Zeyskaya hydroelectric power plant, planned to be built along the Zey River in the Amur Region. The plant has a design capacity of 4,28 MW (four hydropower units, each with a capacity of 107 MW). The power will be provided through a height difference of 25 meters (approximately the height of an 8-story building). At the same time, the height of the dam itself will reach 42.75 meters, and the total length of the pressure front will exceed one and a half kilometers.
In addition to generating electricity, the Nizhne-Zeyskaya hydroelectric power plant will control the storage of water in the river and eliminate the risk of seasonal flooding.
According to the plan, the project will be submitted to the state for review next year at the latest. It is too early to say when construction will begin and when it will be completed.
