Qualcomm continues to share details about its upcoming flagship Snapdragon processors. Previously, the company announced that the new Oryon core in the chip will be able to run at frequencies up to 5 GHz and will use a new FlexCache cache architecture. Now the company has talked about some of the features of its new integrated GPU Adreno as part of its future chips.

In particular, the company announced that the Matrix Engine will be used as part of new Snapdragon GPUs for the first time. There will be three of them. They will be responsible for the operation of the adrenal neurofusion technology. Qualcomm says Neural Fusion delivers reduced visual artifacts (such as flickering and ghosting), more stable performance, and richer detail than previous solutions. Additionally, the technology saves up to 40% energy compared to previous solutions.
We can assume that by “previous solution” the company is referring to the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gaming Super Resolution feature. As the Android Authority portal points out, apparently the new technology will provide frame generation and image scaling capabilities in supported games. Qualcomm also confirmed that Unreal Engine and Unity game engine already support Adreno Neural Fusion.
It’s unclear whether the Matrix Engine will be available as part of the new Snapdragon processors for non-gaming-related tasks. However, it is worth noting that Xiaomi has announced 8 neural accelerators for the Arm G2-Ultra NX GPU as part of its new proprietary XRing 03 processor. Therefore, bringing artificial intelligence support to GPU hardware may become a trend for next-generation mobile devices.
Qualcomm also announced that the GPU in the new chip will adopt a three-layer architecture. It divides the GPU’s shader cores and other hardware units into “segments” to more accurately control power consumption and balance performance.
The company claims that the new Adreno GPU is clocked at 1.45 GHz. For comparison, the graphics card in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 operates at 1.2 GHz. The new Adreno GPU will still be equipped with 18 MB of high-performance memory (Adreno High Performance Memory), but according to Qualcomm, its efficiency will be increased by 12%. Additionally, the company claims to use Qualcomm X105 modem and FastConnect 8800 communication suite in the processor.
