As developer CD Projekt Red made clear via official social media channels, you can easily transfer old saves to the new version and pick up where you left off. But that’s not all: all achievements and trophies you’ve unlocked will remain with you and will be seamlessly integrated into the revised system.
With the clarification, the Polish development studio is responding to a flood of inquiries from the community that have accumulated since the remaster was announced at Gamescom. Disarming the alert is available on all supported platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and users switching from Nintendo Switch to the new Nintendo Switch 2.
So if you still have unfinished missions from the Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine expansions or the main game, you can continue completing them in the graphically and mechanically enhanced versions without losing any progress. This confirmation is particularly good news for trophy hunters and achievement collectors. Achievements that have been unlocked are automatically recorded in the modified game account, so you don’t have to re-complete difficult tasks – such as collecting all Gwent cards or special challenges in the battle system. However, if you want to experience the entire adventure again, including the complete trophy catalog, you can of course start over.
The Witcher 3 Remastered will be released on September 29, 2026 as a completely free upgrade for all owners of the previous main game. In addition to being fully compatible with older files, the update also offers many technical improvements: including revised graphics with the help of well-known community modders, a fine-tuned combat system, an optimized user interface, and cross-platform mod support. In this way, the developers are creating the ideal basis for the wait for the story expansion Song of the Past, which will be released in 2027.
