
Apple is preparing its first 2nm processor for the iPhone – the A20 Pro. According to the leaked information, the new chip will feature a redesigned layout, a larger Neural Engine, and possibly a seven-core GPU, which will significantly improve the performance of future devices.
In the published front-side photo of the crystal, experts found signs of changes in the graphics subsystem. Meanwhile, the CPU configuration will apparently remain the same: two efficient cores and four energy-saving cores. The L2 cache of the high-performance cores will remain at 16 MB each, while the L2 cache of the energy-efficient cores can be increased from 6 MB to 8 MB compared to the A19 Pro.

The main change is the transition from InFO_PoP to WMCM packaging. Therefore, the memory die will be placed next to the SoC die rather than on top of it. This approach allows you to extend the memory bus to 96 bits while maintaining the LPDDR5X standard, thereby increasing bandwidth without switching to the more expensive LPDDR6. The A20 Pro is expected to be used in the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable smartphone. The company is likely to reveal official specifications at its “Surprise and Shine” presentation on September 9.
