Anyone wanting to try out the vast open-world action RPG Crimson Desert for free before purchasing will no longer have to download a ton of material. As announced by development studio Pearl Abyss in partnership with Amazon, a free trial is now available and can be streamed directly through a web browser on Twitch. The Amazon GameLift Streams service gives you the chance to test ambitious adventures up close and personal in just 20 minutes. The studio has boldly embarked on a very interesting experiment in the use of cloud gaming outside of the classic subscription model.
The technical implementation of the Twitch demo relies entirely on easy access. The sample version does not store a huge installation file on the hard drive, but launches directly in the desktop browser after a brief age confirmation. Within a 20-minute window, you slip into the role of protagonist Cliff and are dropped into the middle of the Hernand region.
The creators offer you an advanced state of play where the skill tree is mostly unlocked. This means you can unleash your passion in the complex combat system and try to explore the virtual game world on your own.
This push coincides with the release of the major free “Crimson Desert Enhanced” update. This version expands the main game with new cutscenes, additional voice acting, and numerous gameplay comfort adjustments. Despite an initial mixed response after initial sales, the title from the creator of Black Desert has now sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
