Graphics innovation doesn’t stop at cloud streaming. NVIDIA is officially launching the latest generation of AI-powered scaling and rendering technology with its weekly GFN Thursday update. At the forefront of innovation is the release of NBA 2K27, now available on GeForce NOW and the first game to support NVIDIA’s new DLSS 5 and “3D Guided Neural Rendering” technology. Through a close collaboration between chip giant NVIDIA, developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K, Basketball Simulator aims to achieve a level of visual realism previously unattainable. In addition to this launch, September’s product lineup is also very rich, with a total of 28 new games coming to the cloud.
The use of DLSS 5 marks a significant paradigm shift in visual presentation on GeForce RTX 5080 server devices in cloud services. While previous iterations of DLSS relied primarily on upscaling and frame rate generation, 3D Guided Neural Rendering intervenes more deeply in the rendering process.
Artificial intelligence technology instantly recalculates light refraction and skin details. Light dynamically passes through the virtual athlete’s ears, moves naturally over the sweat film on the skin, and realistically captures hair without distorting the precisely scanned facial geometry of real NBA pros. This was also the first opportunity for players to check out the professional implementation in the game, which sparked a lot of controversy in advance after the modding community took the first step based on leaked files.
In addition to the technology flagship “NBA 2K27”, NVIDIA will launch 9 other new versions this week. Highlights include development studio Rebel Wolves’ dark vampire RPG Blood of the Dawn Treader and Capcom’s samurai fighting game Onimusha: Kendo, both of which will be playable from day one on nearly all compatible devices. Also out now are Breathedge 2, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed and Serious Sam: Shatterverse.
The rest of the month also offers top-notch offerings for cloud gamers. More high-profile games such as CONTROL Resonant, Bus Simulator 27, The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 and indie successes such as Stray, Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch will launch in September. NVIDIA also announced the gradual expansion of DLSS 4.5 options for existing games at Gamescom.
NVIDIA demonstrated that highly complex AI hardware functions such as DLSS 5 are no longer limited to local high-end PC users, but can be made available to the public through the cloud.
