Today we’re turning our attention to a demo of a new fan project that’s giving Doom 3: The BFG Edition a deep graphical upgrade. Enthusiasts have introduced sophisticated real-time path tracing into this classic shooter, and also connected NVIDIA’s leaked DLSS 5 neural rendering library.
The original 2004 Doom 3 was famous for its revolutionary id Tech 4 hard per-pixel shading system. Path tracing replaces them with physically correct calculations of multiple light reflections, soft-contact shadows, and realistic light scattering from emergency lights, sparks, and plasma shots.
In this case, DLSS 5 is not specifically required, but the author of the mod thought that his graphics card should be affected and introduced this neural filter into the project. As a result, we get a game that is initially correctly lit and then completed by the neural network for greater realism (according to the neural network itself).
