During the “From Reunion to Resolution” panel at PAX West, game director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the Remastered project was conceived not just as a modern reinterpretation of the 1997 classic, but as a way Bringing Final Fantasy 7 to a new generation of players.
An eternal legend?
The group also showed a slide (below) explicitly discussing “Expand the future of FF7” And transform it into “an evolving future IP” that transcends the simple and classic characters of the past. This approach harkens back to what happened after the 1997 game, when Square Enix released spin-offs, side projects and even animated movies with the clear intention of expanding the brand’s reach.

Currently, apart from Final Fantasy 7: Revelations and the two DLCs already announced starring Sephiroth and Vincent, there has been no official confirmation of the new project. However, Hamaguchi’s words and the direction expressed during the panel suggest that Square Enix sees Cloud and his companions’ epic as a mainstay destined for further growth, with new games and side projects likely to launch in the coming years.
