Let us remember that Riot Games announced plans for an MMO based on League of Legends in the summer of 2021, with development restarting at the end of 2023. Last winter, Merrill said he hoped the game would be released before humans land on Mars.
During a presentation at PAX West 2026, Merrill confirmed that despite the long lull, the game is still in development: “We know the dreams and hopes of the players. Now it’s our turn to make it happen.”.

Merrill jokingly said that Riot employees liken the development of the League of Legends MMO to the pursuit of the Holy Grail. on the go “A lot of brave knights will die, but this is the damn Holy Grail, so let’s go”.
“That’s the mentality we’re trying to keep, even though it’s not easy on a large scale. But I think we’re doing a good job and the future is very bright.”Merrill shared.

Users in the comments expressed skepticism about Merrill Lynch’s statement. Especially against the backdrop of Riot’s announcement in August that active support for fighting game 2XKO would soon be discontinued – less than a year after launch.
Merrill has previously stated that he has invested more time in the League of Legends MMO than in all other Riot projects. They promised a third-person perspective, action-RPG elements, and innovative gameplay concepts.
