Gaijin Entertainment is preparing a major update “Sky Odyssey” for the online military action game War Thunder. The patch will be released in mid-September and will add Greek aircraft and ground vehicles, the Indian Arjun Mk 1 tank, the British AW159 Wildcat HMA2 helicopter, new ships, and the Mount Darwin map of the Falkland Islands. Bomber damage models and new systems for modern aviation will also change.
Greek vehicles will appear as a separate sub-branch in the Israeli research tree. The aircraft line-up starts with the SB2C-5 Helldiver, which has been supplied to Greece since 1949, while more modern aircraft will include A-7H and A-7E attack aircraft, capable of using a variety of weapons, including Shrike anti-radar missiles and Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. Rafale EG with active phased array radar completes the range.
Greek ground equipment will receive Soviet Osa-AKM and Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as the Leopard 2HEL developed for the Greek Army based on the Leopard 2A6. Other new vehicles include the Indian main battle tank Arjun Mk 1.
One of the UK branch’s most notable new additions is the AW159 Wildcat HMA2 multi-purpose offshore helicopter. It will receive a variety of guided weapons, including 20 operator-guided Martlet and Spike NLOS missiles. The Martlet is suitable for countering anti-aircraft systems, light vehicles and other helicopters, while the Spike NLOS is primarily designed to destroy armored vehicles.
A new land location, Mount Darwin, will take players to the Falkland Islands. It is based on the settlement area of the same name, where British and Argentine forces fought during the Falklands War. The map will feature open plains, rocky coastlines, yellow gorse bushes, and small rural buildings. As part of the update, the developers have also redesigned the look of the existing Falklands map.
This update will also change the bomber’s survivability with a new damage model. Modern aviation will receive a new multi-function display and helmet-mounted target designation system, and other innovations include additional ammunition, equipment replacement and extensive repairs.
