Even at the stage of gameplay leaks, one of the features of Grand Theft Auto VI that has caused many questions from players is car refueling. Audiences were divided into two camps – some saw the new mechanic as an important element of realism, while others saw it as useless routine that killed the fun of the game.
Rob Nelson, one of the top executives at Rockstar, talked about some points about refueling, refuting the concerns of some players:
- You need to refuel both gas-powered and electric vehicles. For this purpose, different types of stations are used, and sometimes they can be combined.
- Refueling doesn’t happen instantly. The character must leave the vehicle and perform separate actions.
- Judging from the demonstration, the filling process takes about 10 seconds. Rob Nelson did not reveal a specific time, but commented on the duration of the process: “Filled up quickly. Nothing to complain about”.
- In GTA 6, not only can you refuel your car, you can also repair your car at the gas station.
- With a full tank of gas, you can drive for quite some time, Nelson said. By doing so, it disproves the assumption that players must constantly consider the amount of fuel in their car.
- Mechanics have real importance in car theft. Nelson gives the example of a car with very little fuel in which the hero needs to hide from the police. According to him, this is quite a difficult task.
At the same time, Rockstar isn’t sure how players will react to the car’s refueling system. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether there will be an option to adjust the “difficulty” of this option or disable it completely.
The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on Xbox Series X | S and Playstation 5 will take place on November 19th.
