StarCraft: A shooter with a massive single-player campaign – like Starfighter 2?

In the lead-up to this year’s BlizzCon, rumors surrounding a new StarCraft shooter are heating up. If a prominent insider is right, the new action game will primarily be a story-driven single-player shooter in the style of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

Rumors have been circulating in recent months about a possible new shooter project in the StarCraft series, after a similar game to StarCraft: Ghosts was not fully developed in previous years. Over the past few days, Blizzard Entertainment’s trailers posted on the official website have made people sit up and take notice – and now insiders are continuing to speculate.

BlizzCon is happening next weekend, and a new StarCraft shooter might actually be announced there. Microsoft expert Jez Corden from Windows Central may have the latest information on this – Blizzard is also a member of the group. His statements have generally been reliable in the past, so the latest details are interesting.

According to Corden, the StarCraft shooter will primarily be a story-focused single-player game. He’d seen the pre-alpha scene himself. There are also cutscenes, realistic graphics and voice actors to set the characters to music. For example, the graphics should be more realistic and of higher quality than in Warcraft.

Specifically, Corden said, “I’ve heard from reliable sources that this is a single-player story game.” Combat should also be played from a third-person perspective, reminiscent of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. While the game won’t compare to Helldiver 2 in any way, Corden didn’t rule out similar modes or multiplayer.

“I’m pretty sure it will have a multiplayer element – similar to Gears of War: E-Day – but it will be a full single-player story/co-op campaign,” Corden added.

Rumors about a new StarCraft shooter were first reported in 2024 by famed Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier. The announcement may now be made at BlizzCon 2026, which takes place on September 12-13, 2026.
