Sekiro: Undefeated, the anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has been released in Japan. Before the premiere, the official anime channel released a special 1-minute trailer titled “Battle of Silverfield”. However, it seems that animation director Kutsuna Kenichi doesn’t want the clip to be released early.
In a post on his personal X account, Kuna surprised Sekiro fans by warning them not to watch the new trailer if they plan to see the movie in theaters.
I know it’s probably too late, but one scene – which, while not a plot spoiler per se, does contain a movie moment that shouldn’t be spoiled – has been uploaded online. The director wants the audience to go to the movie without watching this film.
Kutsuna added in a follow-up post that the accident was caused by negligence on the part of ARCH Productions. By the way, the animation of “Sekiro: Undefeated” is produced by Qzil.la Studio, and the production is handled by ARCH and Kadokawa. The director emphasized that Kadokawa was not to blame for the problems with the trailer.
This rather unprecedented statement by the animation director caused a lot of surprise among Japanese fans, and also made people think about the cause of this troublesome matter. As of this writing, none of the companies involved in the production have commented on the matter, and the trailer is still available to watch on YouTube.
