Nintendo revealed details of the remaster during a special event celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time series. The developer showed off a full trailer and also demonstrated about 15 minutes of actual gameplay. At the same time, the exact release date of Nintendo Switch 2 was also announced – November 5, 2026.
The new demo better showcases the scale of the rework than June’s brief trailer. Nintendo overhauled the graphics, environments, and character models while maintaining the familiar structure of the original game. In the film you can see Link in the Kokiri Forest, the Great Deku Tree, and other familiar locations. The camera can now be freely controlled with the right stick, and Link himself can jump at the player’s command.
One notable innovation is the “Time Line” system, which helps guide the adventure. It tracks the player’s progress and shows where to go next, gradually filling a large world map. The developers have also redesigned the Ocarina controls. Instead of using buttons to play a melody, players can hum the desired sequence into the Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone, and Link will play it back on the instrument.
The story scenes have also been significantly revised. Nintendo added fully voiced character sequences and expanded dialogue, and the music was re-recorded by the Symphony Orchestra. The world has become noticeably more detailed, with the cycle of day and night now continuing even in cities. Loading between locations should also be faster thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2’s capabilities.
At the same time, Nintendo launched a special edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 game console dedicated to the 40th anniversary of “The Legend of Zelda”. Will be released on October 29th with Theme Pro Controller and Case. The game itself will be sold separately in physical and digital versions.
